Education and Training
Dr. Michael Zachar earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa, before completing his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at the University of Iowa. During dental school, he was recognized for academic excellence and leadership, receiving the Academy of General Dentistry Student of the Year Award, the Duane Schmidt Practice Management Award, and an award from the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.
Following dental school, Dr. Zachar completed a one-year Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) residency at Sheppard Air Force Base. He then pursued specialty training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Wilford Hall Medical Center and San Antonio Military Medical Center. His surgical training included rotations in anesthesia, cardiology, neurosurgery, plastic surgery, pediatric surgery, general surgery, trauma surgery, and intensive care. He received extensive experience in dental extractions, dental and facial implants, trauma care, orthognathic surgery, and cosmetic facial procedures.
Dr. Zachar has contributed to the field through publications in the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and the Atlas of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Specialty Roles and Military Service
Dr. Zachar is an instructor in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and regularly attends advanced specialty courses nationwide to remain current in his field. He served on active duty in the United States Air Force from 2007 to 2017, with assignments at Sheppard AFB, Lackland AFB, and the United States Air Force Academy.
