Dr. Colter grew up in Athens and attended the University of Texas at Austin, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Microbiology. In June 2000, she completed her dental education at Baylor College of Dentistry, earning her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree and graduating at the top of her class.
After dental school, Dr. Colter relocated to Seattle with her husband, Shandon, and joined a family dental practice. She practiced general dentistry for three years while caring for patients of all ages.

After discovering her passion for treating children, Dr. Colter returned to school for specialized pediatric dental training. She completed her pediatric dentistry residency at the University of California Medical Center in Los Angeles, where she served as chief resident.
During her residency, she treated a diverse range of pediatric patients at UCLA Dental School, UCLA Medical Center, and community clinics throughout the Los Angeles area. Following completion of her residency, Dr. Colter and her husband returned to Dallas to be closer to their families.
