Meet Dr. Jill Ombrello, DDS, AIAOMT, AIABDM, IFMCP

Dr. Jill Ombrello is a holistic family dentist, Certified Functional Medicine Practitioner, and dedicated advocate for special needs patients. She focuses on conservative, comprehensive dental care delivered through honest communication, advanced systems, and a welcoming, patient-centered environment.

Dr. Ombrello’s clinical interests include holistic health, sleep and airway management, early interventional growth and development therapy, and interdisciplinary collaboration. She works closely with pediatricians, ENT physicians, chiropractors, nutritionists, and functional medicine providers to support whole-body health and long-term outcomes for her patients.

Her approach to dentistry is deeply influenced by her personal health journey. While competing as a Division I field hockey athlete during college, Dr. Ombrello began experiencing severe and unexplained medical symptoms that ultimately led to years of consultations with specialists across multiple disciplines. During her second year of dental school, she was correctly diagnosed with a worsening patent foramen ovale (PFO), a rare congenital heart defect. She subsequently underwent two open-heart surgeries over 11 months. Following recovery, she completed dental school and graduated with her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree just 16 months after her second surgery. Within a year, she also completed a half-marathon—an experience that reinforced her commitment to resilience, empathy, and patient advocacy.

Dr. Ombrello earned her Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from Saint Louis University in 2004 and her DDS from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston Dental Branch in 2008. She has traveled extensively throughout the United States and internationally to present research and educate healthcare professionals on pediatric sleep-disordered breathing and her non-surgical, non-pharmaceutical therapeutic approaches, which have helped resolve chronic conditions such as allergies, inflammatory diseases, bedwetting, night terrors, and ADHD symptoms in children.

A strong proponent of service and outreach, Dr. Ombrello regularly volunteers her time providing public health dentistry in underserved communities, including rural areas of Texas and Alaska. She also donates dental care to the Genesis Women’s Shelter to support survivors of domestic abuse and works with nursing homes to provide treatment and education for elderly patients and their caregivers. In Fall 2016, she treated pediatric patients and educated healthcare providers in Ecuador as part of an international outreach initiative.

Dr. Ombrello is a Hockaday alumna and a parishioner of Christ the King. She and her husband are proud parents of four children. Her practice philosophy centers on empathy, honesty, clinical excellence, and creating a positive, approachable experience for every patient.
